L3Harris will be included in the 2022 Disability Equality Index® (DEI) and recognized as one of the Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion. The DEI is the nation’s most comprehensive annual benchmarking tool, facilitated by leading non-profits Disability:IN and the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD). It serves as a roadmap of measurable, tangible actions companies can take to achieve disability inclusion and equality. Companies included in the 2022 DEI have provided a comprehensive look at how they advance disability inclusion across their business.

In 2022, 415 corporations, including 69 Fortune 100, 188 Fortune 500, and 227 Fortune 1000 companies utilized the DEI to benchmark their disability inclusion efforts. L3Harris was selected as a top-scoring DEI company for scoring above the global threshold established by Disability:IN, receiving a score of 100%. This reflects a high level of overall performance across the index’s five pillars, which include: company culture and leadership, enterprise-wide access, employment practices, community engagement and supplier diversity.

The disability community is large and diverse with 25% of American adults identifying as disabled, but according to the Center for Talent Innovation (CTI), less than 3% of employees report their disability in fear of negative bias. L3Harris is focused on creating a more inclusive environment for people with disabilities and as of 2021, 8% of L3Harris employees self-identify as having a disability.

“At L3Harris, we strive to be an inclusive workplace for all employees to bring their whole selves to work, which includes the many employees who have a visible or invisible disability or may be a caregiver to loved ones,” said Carol Kneis, HR Director, Talent Management and Willing & Able ERG Enterprise Chair. “We use Employee Resource Groups like Willing & Able (WILA) as valuable connections with our employees to better understand how we can improve the employee experience, and how to successfully recruit talent from the disabled community.”

In 2021, the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion team and IT connected with WILA to test our intranet for compatibility with screen readers and other assistive technology. This partnership identified areas with opportunity for improvement, and a digital accessibility toolkit addressing these findings will be published later in the quarter.

In the past year, L3Harris has taken the following actions both at work and in the community to support disability inclusion:

  • Expanded focus on DE&I through its CEO-led Diversity Council, which includes disability-focused employee resource group, WILA.
  • Celebrated Disability Awareness Month in October by spotlighting employees’ achievements in articles, photo galleries and on social media.
  • Hosted lunch n’ learns addressing Mental Health and Suicide Prevention in the Workplace with the Utah Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (DSAMH).
  • Doubled the amount of virtual and in-person counseling sessions available to US and international employees.
  • Audited our company website for WCAG 2.1 AA level compliance, which ensures our content is accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning and neurological disabilities.
  • Launched a formal partnership with Gigi's playhouse to provide volunteer support across their network and provided a $50K grant.

L3Harris aims to attract, engage and retain a high performing, diverse workforce—and believe a fun culture of inclusion drives our employees to achieve their full potential. We empower our people—no matter their race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability or veteran status—to be innovators to solve our customers’ toughest problems.
