Why do you like what you do?

Our product matters in people's lives. It affects news today. It directly affects how fast, how far and for how long we can deploy our Naval fleet. The need is now; we can push it closer to reality or delay it with our own inaction. For every day of innovation we contribute to the product and the company, we can see 10x return on effort by the people who depend on us.

What are some common misconceptions or myths about engineers?

A common misconception about engineers is that the best ones are reclusive intellectuals. But engineers are foremost pragmatists, and we are resourceful and persistent. Engineers work best in teams where the members depend on each other. We find ways to solve problems within tight schedules and limited resources; we make things work no matter what we have to work with. And we solve problems in a way that others can reuse to keep problems solved.

If asked at the dinner table, how would you describe what you do?

I solve difficult problems in a team of diverse engineers where I contribute to software and modeling interests.
