Maintaining America's Undersea Edge: L3Harris Secures Towed Array Production Through 2029

As peer competitors expand their submarine fleets, maintaining U.S. and allied undersea dominance requires advanced acoustic detection capabilities. L3Harris has secured contracts from Naval Sea Systems Command to continue production of TB-29C and TB-34A towed array systems, ensuring U.S. Navy submarine commanders maintain the extended detection range and situational awareness needed to counter evolving threats.

Extending the Submarine's Reach

These advanced passive sonar systems provide submarine commanders with enhanced detection capabilities where acoustic superiority is the key to mission success.

"The awards reflect the Navy's confidence in L3Harris' ability to deliver the critical undersea systems that protect our sailors and maintain America's undersea advantage,” said Nino DiCosmo, President, Maritime, L3Harris. "Our sustained investment in specialized facilities and our skilled workforce ensure the submarine fleet has the capabilities needed to counter evolving threats."

Protecting the Industrial Base

The contract awards ensure continuity of towed array production capabilities through the end of the decade, protecting vital industrial base capabilities that cannot be easily reconstituted. A strong, stable supply chain means warfighters receive reliable, mission-critical systems when and where they need them – without delays or capability gaps that could compromise operational effectiveness. This commitment is critical for fleet operational readiness and ensuring timely replacement of arrays as they reach the end of their service life.

Delivering Mission-Ready Systems

L3Harris' manufacturing infrastructure supports complete end-to-end array fabrication, from precision hydrophone assembly to final system integration and testing. Every towed array undergoes rigorous quality assurance and environmental testing prior to delivery, ensuring each system meets the demanding operational requirements of the submarine force. This disciplined approach – refined over decades of towed array production – delivers mission-ready systems on time, when warfighters need them most.

A Strategic National Asset with Capacity to Scale

L3Harris' position as a leading provider is built on proprietary manufacturing processes and technical expertise developed over decades. The company's proven track record in complex undersea systems, combined with its demonstrated capacity to scale operations, positions it to support the Navy's fleet modernization with Columbia- and Virginia-class submarines.

L3Harris’ established supply chain relationships, workforce development programs and manufacturing infrastructure provide the flexibility to meet evolving fleet demands while maintaining exacting standards. In an era where industrial capacity is as strategically important as technological capability , L3Harris stands ready to meet the Navy's growing needs and ensure America's undersea advantage for decades to come.
