Target Earlier, Fire Faster

An industry team led by Palantir is driving advancement in the U.S. Army Tactical Intelligence Targeting Access Node (TITAN) program’s prototype maturation phase. TITAN is the Army’s next-generation Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) ground station where L3Harris leads communication system integration activities for Palantir. In addition, L3Harris provides the bulk of communication assets for this program, from common datalinks, Link 16 and tactical multi-domain waveforms to positioning, navigation and timing, Global Broadcast Service and satellite communications – both from traditional military assets as well as commercial space internet.

“Our partnership with Palantir is growing exponentially through this opportunity and this teamwork,” said Brian Brennan, Director, Program Management, L3Harris. “We’re nearing the first article delivery of the initial four vehicles, and the team is committed to rapidly pushing this capability to the field to meet warfighter needs.”

Through the collaboration and synergies of the industry partners, Palantir has, in each step of the TITAN program, assuaged any government concern related to the relatively new defense industry entrant’s capability to deliver on their sophisticated engineering designs, according to Brennan.

With L3Harris’ technology to gather and distribute ISR and targeting information coupled with Palantir’s software, there have been significant reductions in analysis required to support missions. The team’s user management interface provides the user with a “single pane of glass” to manage the program-mandated eight simultaneous network connections. The processing speed and intuitive dashboard coupled with the various resilient multi-domain network connections supports the Army’s ability to target earlier, fire faster and engage at farther ranges than its adversaries.

TITAN Sets the Stage for Continued Collaboration

The work on the TITAN program and the Radio-as-a-Sensor concept are only two of several initial technology investigations the two companies are actively pursuing.

Generally, L3Harris and Palantir are collaborating on:

  • Assured line-of-sight and beyond-line-of-sight wideband and narrowband communications
  • AI-enabled automation to reduce operator workloads, increase situational awareness, improve operator effectiveness and give leaders faster and more precise intelligence to make decisions
  • “Sense, control and visualize” capabilities through a simplified user interface to reduce soldier burden and complexity
  • Technology insertions on current platforms and sensors to provide bridging solutions
  • Driving innovation while reducing risk for customers’ architecture, data layers and networks

Further collaboration, insights and advancements between L3Harris and Palantir will focus on enhancing the data processing capabilities of tactical communication networks so that operators at the edge receive only relevant, actionable intelligence so they can conduct missions faster, more effectively and safer.
