A Collaborative Capstone: L3Harris at Project Convergence

Delivering Assured Platform Interoperability

The experiment’s foundation was assured communications across all domains and interoperable platforms, sustaining a data-rich environment and enabling rapid, intelligent data sharing across an agile mesh network resistant to jamming and intercept attempts. Unbanded frequency ranges and an open-systems framework supported broad PACE (Primary, Alternate, Contingency, Emergency) communications planning options.

The L3Harris Falcon® radio transport systems, the AN/PRC-163 and -158C, served as part of the capstone’s transport layer and delivered high-throughput Mobile Ad hoc NETwork (MANET) and protected waveform connectivity for assured communications in all conditions.

Dominating the Spectrum with DECEPTOR™ EW

The compact Deceptor™ modular electronic warfare (EW) payload supported autonomous EW, operating with the company’s Distributed Spectrum Collaboration and Operations (DiSCO™) ecosystem. As also demonstrated in several recent Army experiments this year, the Deceptor system provided coordinated AI-enabled sensing and effects across the battlespace, integrating with KHA K1000 unmanned aerial systems to detect and geolocate threats, fuse data from multiple sensors and execute radio-frequency jamming to neutralize enemy threats across the electromagnetic spectrum.

Expanding Partnership in Autonomous Operations

L3Harris collaborated with ARX Robotics UK to mount L3Harris’ CORVUS-RAVEN counter-UAS capability on an ARX remotely controlled uncrewed ground vehicle. The demonstration showed how open architectures can rapidly combine robotic mobility with passive drone detection, extending threat awareness into forward or hazardous areas while reducing personnel exposure.

New Use for a Trusted Asset

L3Harris integrated Link 16 onto a UH-60 Black Hawk to expand connectivity to the Joint Force in support of NGC2 and long-range networked fires. Importantly, air-launched effects enabled by Link 16-equipped Black Hawks demonstrated AH-64 Apache optimization across a broad range of mission sets. The iterative learning opportunities provided by Project Convergence add to the suite of options for how the Army can support the Joint Force.

Continued Success from Ivy Mass and Operation Jailbreak

The company’s proposed solutions for the NGC2 program – previously demonstrated in realistic scenarios at the Army’s Ivy Sting, Ivy Mass and Lightning Surge experiments – took center stage at this year’s Capstone. The L3Harris capabilities further highlighted the importance of not only transporting high-throughput data across the battlespace through multiple transport options but also delivering it as actionable intelligence to specific platforms. Open-system and software-defined architectures serve as the backbone of L3Harris designs, providing future-proof capability to employ sensors, command-and-control nodes and effectors connected in a unified network in accordance with real-world mission requirements.
