Overview
L3Harris proven infrared satellite technology is advancing our customers’ efforts to defend our nation against new threats posed by hypersonic weapons. We provide the SDA with advanced, mission-enabling technologies that improve the entire chain of detection, tracking, targeting and engagement.
- Designing, building and testing five missile-tracking satellites for the MDA’s Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS) program and the SDA’s Tranche 0 Tracking Layer. Five satellites successfully launched into orbit from Cape Canaveral, Florida, in February 2024.
- Tranche 1 (T1) Tracking Layer: L3Harris is designing and building 16 missile-tracking satellites as part of the T1 constellation. L3Harris delivered its first Infrared payload for T1 in October 2024 following Test Readiness Review, a development milestone that verifies we are ready to proceed into space vehicle integration and test.
- Tranche 2 (T2) Tracking Layer: L3Harris is building 18 satellites for the T2 constellation, which will provide near-global missile warning and tracking coverage. The company completed Critical Design Review and Production Readiness Review in summer 2025.
