Mission Need

In order to meet mission needs, the U.S. Navy requires fuel efficient, flexible power and propulsion systems. Today’s warships are being designed with comprehensive platform automation capabilities that allow them to achieve unprecedented levels of ship survivability and operational effectiveness. New hybrid propulsion and power generation systems are being designed to evolve with changing platform mission sets and adapt to future technologies. These technologies require the development and integration of advanced control systems that can evolve right along with the engineering and operational needs and incorporate advanced capabilities to help optimize operational effectiveness and contribute to reduced manning trends. These systems need to be sustainable and at a cost-point that will maintain Machinery Control System (MCS) operation and evolve throughout the life of the platform.
