P25 COMPLIANCE ASSESSMENT PROGRAM (CAP)

The P25 Compliance Assessment Program (P25 CAP) provides independent, standardized testing conducted by accredited laboratories to verify that equipment identified under P25 complies with program standards. L3Harris is credited with the first P25-compliant device and has been committed to the program ever since. This testing and documentation instills confidence in the reliability and performance of communications equipment, and ensures seamless interoperability between agencies and organizations. This matters because it isn’t just about meeting criteria; it’s about instilling confidence in the reliability and performance of your communications equipment.

UNDERSTANDING P25 SYSTEM INTERFACES: THE BACKBONE OF INTEROPERABLE COMMUNICATIONS

A key element to P25 is its defined system interfaces that are integral to building P25 communication networks. P25 defines various interfaces to enable seamless communication between different components within the network including:

P25 Common Air Interface (CIA) icon

COMMON AIR INTERFACE (CAI)
Provides a standard way for P25 subscriber units to communicate with each other and P25 Radio Frequency Subsystems (RFSSs).

P25 Inter Subsystem Interface (ISSI) icon

INTER SUBSYSTEM INTERFACE (ISSI)
Provides a secure interoperable method to interface P25 RFSSs. These RFSSs may be from different manufacturers or the same manufacturer.

P25 Console Subsystem Interface (CSSI) icon

CONSOLE SUBSYSTEM INTERFACE (CSSI)
Provides a secure interoperable method to interface P25 consoles with P25 RFSSs.

P25 DIGITAL FIXED STATION INTERFACE (DFSI) icon

DIGITAL FIXED STATION INTERFACE (DFSI)
Provides the capability to interface P25 Conventional systems with Dispatch.

P25 KEY FILL DEVICE INTERFACE (KFD) icon

KEY FILL DEVICE INTERFACE (KFD)
Provides a standard capability to interface a keyloader with 25 Subscriber Units (SU).

The defined system interfaces in P25 play a crucial role in ensuring seamless communication and interoperability within P25 networks. They enable different components to communicate effectively, regardless of the manufacturer or agency involved. This standardization promotes efficiency, reliability and enhanced coordination around public safety organizations.
