Expanding Multi-Mission Excellence for Italy and Our Global Partners

L3Harris continues to support the Italian Joint intelligence Center (JIC) and Italian Air Force (ITAF) Joint Airborne Multi-mission, Multi-sensor System (JAMMS) program to create a special mission aircraft fleet with a Gulfstream G550 platform that provides the range, altitude, and high performance needed for strategic intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and electronic warfare mission effectiveness.

L3Harris currently participates in many Italian naval programs, providing multiple solutions fitted for different uses and customer needs. We supported and are supporting submarine programs such as the Toti class, Sauro class and Todaro (U212) up to the recent Near Future Submarines class design and construction, equipped with our mast rising equipment, sensors and valves.

With more than 20 years of experience in coastal and offshore surveying and a clear understanding of the requirements for remotely operated vehicles (ROV) and subsea systems, L3Harris’ family of AGEOTEC ROV’s has supported a wide range of underwater missions.

Leveraging its superior knowledge in the naval field, L3Harris supports many surface ship-building programs, delivering naval handling solutions and visual landing aids for helicopters.

Projection Mapping: The Future of Helicopter Visual Landing Aids

Consistent findings of previous studies suggest that external visual cueing is vital for a successful helicopter ship landing.

Visual scanning technologies, such as projection mapping and VLA augmented reality, can help reduce the mental workload of helicopter pilots during landing operations by providing clear and accurate external visual cues. These technologies can also improve situational awareness and help pilots make more informed decisions, leading to safer, more efficient landings.

Author Daniele M. Bertin, Director, Innovation, L3Harris in Italy, outlines this new approach with a system description and demonstration in the whitepaper, Projection-Mapping: The New Solution for Helicopter Visual Landing Aids.
